Modifying external antenna for Homeline HLW-USB300:

HLW-USB300 is low-cost, small size Wlan device based on Zydas 1211 chip. These instructions can also be used for HLW-USB200 and HLW-USB400, or pretty much any brand usb-device.

LTCC antennas are usually with 50 ohm feed, gain is about 0 dBi and return loss greater than 10 dB. With 50 ohm feed it's possible to feed external 1/2-lambda "toothpick" DIY antenna. This 50-ohm feed can also be connected to high quality coax line and external antenna like hybrid quad.

Difference with LTCC and toothpick antenna measured using Nokia 9300i. It shows quality between 0...100% and with DIY antenna quality was 20-30 % better than with LTCC antenna.

USB dongle will work as access point by using drivers from chips manufacturer Zydas.
